You will learn how to use a dress-making pattern: to understand the markings, work out your size, lay out and cut the pieces and how understand the construction instructions. At the end of the session you will have a lovely pair of PJ bottoms to take home.

This session is designed for those with basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. Sessions are always tailored to the attendees to ensure that you get the most from it and have fun.

The workshop includes use of our equipment and haberdashery. We will supply a pattern. Please bring your own fabric. When you book we will message you information about what to get and where to get it.

At the end of the session you will have a unique pair of PJ pants to take home as well as the confidence to use a commercial sewing pattern to create your own garments.

Question 1

What size PJs would you like to make ? For yourself or someone else (e.g. a child).  What size do you (or the person you are making for) normally wear. 

Learn how to use a sewing machine and apply these skills as you plan and sew a simple patched cushion cover or tote bag using your sewing machine or one of ours.

An introduction to your machine – how it works, how to thread it, select stitches, sew a seam and basic trouble-shooting.

An introduction to using fabric – how to design and plan a project and selecting and working with fabric and threads.

By the end of the workshop you will be sufficiently confident to go home and get started on your own machine and/or join our dressmaking workshop – AND you will have a cushion or tote bag to inspire you.

Use of our materials, haberdashery, a cushion insert and machines is included.

If you want to bring your own sewing machine please bring your instruction book and remember to pack the foot pedal.

For absolute beginners and those who want to brush up rusty skills. Apply your skills as you familiarise yourself with the sewing machine.

Learn simple stitches and how to use them to make something unique to you. This relaxing session is for beginners or those who want to free up their technique.

We will explore a selection of stitches including: running stitch, stem stitch, French and bullion knots and seeding stitch. If there is a particular line or fill that you need we will look at the different stitches. 
You can use these to create an image which can then be left in a frame or made into a small lavender shape.

There will be an opportunity to look at different fabrics and fibres you can use, with an emphasis on re-using and adapting scraps and other bits and bobs. 

You can work on your own design, an idea you have been mulling over or you can work from one of our images. You will learn how to plan and transfer your design onto your base fabric.

This workshop is part of Sam’s Harrow Open Studio. Her artwork will be around for you to use as inspiration and ideas. It will take place in the Stitch Club Studio in Central Pinner. This Aladdin’s cave is full of inspirational textile bits and bobs. It has been adapted to our new way of being with a lovely outdoor working space where you can relax and forget about the world outside.

You will leave with new ideas and the confidence to create your next embroidery independently.

Hand Embroidery : A relaxing creative session

An introduction to using your machine to 'draw'. We will work with a 'normal' machine foot and a darning foot (free machining foot). This relaxing session is for beginners or those who want to free up their technique.
You will work with a mix of fabrics (including soluble) and textures to create a flower bowl using your machine to draw the elements together. 
Learn simple stitches and textile techniques to make something unique to you. We may also combine some hand stitches to enhance your design.
All materials and threads will be provided. There will be an opportunity to look at different fabrics and fibres you can use, with an emphasis on re-using and adapting scraps and other bits and bobs. 
Bring your machine (with manual and a darning foot if you have one) or use one of ours.
Kirstie Allsopp called machine embroidery “the crack-cocaine of crafts”. This workshop will give you a taste of what she means – you might get hooked too (I am!).
*You should already be able to thread and use a machine before the workshop. If you need a refresher we may be able to book in a 121 before hand. Let me know.

This is a workshop for parent/carers and a child aged 16 or under, booked as a pair.

It will be an introduction to the sewing machine – how it works, how to thread it, select stitches, sew a seam and basic trouble-shooting. We will talk about different fabrics and how to chose the right fabric for the tote bag and measure and cut it accurately.

By the end of the workshop you will be sufficiently confident to go home and get started on your own machine and/or join our dressmaking workshop – AND you will have a lovely tote bag to inspire you.

Use of our materials, haberdashery and machines is included. If you wish you can bring your own. It is fun to bring an old shirt or other garment and use that to make the bag.

You can work on your sewing machine or one of ours. If you want to bring your own sewing machine please bring your instruction book.
