These weekly sessions are bookable in 3 and 4 week blocks. We welcome absolute beginners and improvers to our creative space where we will guide you to make your new favourite items, be this homeware or clothes. Our focus is on developing a creative community; sharing time, laughter and knowledge.

If you are not sure where to begin these sessions will provide you with the basics. If you are an improver we can work together on a project to build your skills. With our support and guidance, you will work at your own pace and interests, building your skills while sewing your own creations.

Each term of sessions will begin with a focus, to be agreed with the group to enable everyone to become comfortable in the space and to be able to develop their skill level. These may include:

Learn To Sew Club

Stitch Clubs are small groups of up to 8 children (aged 8+) and young people. The group is usually mixed ability and ages to encourage individual achievement and to support each other to create their own ideas. 

We meet in our purpose-built Stitch Studio in Pinner, North-West London – a cosy making cave full of inspiration.

Starting with simple hand sewing and basic fabric manipulation and then introducing and developing sewing machine and design techniques, children and young people are soon designing and creating their own items. Individual creativity and flexibility are as important as technique ensuring that confidence and skills develop while making fun and beautiful things.

The emphasis is on encouraging children and young people to have the confidence and skills to make items that they want. Getting an idea from your head to reality requires planning and adaptability: practical and creative skills. Creating in small groups encourages collaboration and support and taps into an important part of being human.

We supply everything – fabrics, haberdashery (ribbons, buttons and other bits and bobs), patterns, skill instructions and tuition. The only time you may need to make an additional purchase is if you require a specific fabric or notion when creating a particular project.

Sam is teaching her essential skills in an area she has long been interested in getting into, and she is making rapid progress. The classes are small, interesting and fun, the workshop well-stocked and wonderfully located in a garden with both outdoor and indoor work areas. She really enjoys hanging out there with Sam and the other kids in her home-ed focussed group, making crafty things. It's a perfect, satisfying end to a busy day.

This 4 Hour Workshop is inspired by the re-emergence of fabric and garment reuse, these workshops welcome both absolute beginners and improvers. Our focus is on community and sharing time, laughter and knowledge.

This session will focus on one skill at a time, depending on your need.  For absolute beginners, hand sewing skills will be the initial focus, including putting together a basic home mending kit. For advanced beginners/improvers machine mending will be included.

A day to stitch whatever you fancy: crazy critters, a bag, a cushion, an apron, fabric jewels, a simple skirt,  or perhaps you have another idea? This workshop is suitable for children (aged 8+) and young people – beginners and super stitchers alike.

How old is the attendee

If you are a beginner or feeling a bit rusty we will give you a basic introduction to using a sewing machine to enable you to sew a seam and top stitch to neatly finish off. 

There will be a selection of  fabrics and bits and bobs for you to work with, but if you have a special garment, baby sheet or other fabric you would like to upcycle into a special item, bring it along.

We will discuss the best way to work with your fabric and how to make your stocking unique and special to you. You can decorate your stocking or sack, for example appliqué a letter or patch a selection of fabrics together.

The workshop is held in our dedicated Stitch Studio where you will have access to all sorts of bits and bobs to embellish your work. Sam will be on hand throughout to guide and troubleshoot with you to ensure that you have the confidence to create the best christmas stocking or sack while building your sewing and making skills.

For absolute beginners who would like to start using a sewing machine and those who want to brush up rusty skills.

Make a Christmas Stocking while getting to know your Sewing Machine

In a relaxed, informal environment, you will learn how to sew simple projects from scratch using your sewing machine or one of ours.

This 6 hour workshop is an introduction to your machine – how it works, how to thread it, select stitches, sew a seam and basic trouble-shooting.

An introduction to using fabric – how to design and plan a project and selecting and working with fabric and threads. If there is time we will also make a matching zippy bag.

By the end of the workshops you should feel sufficiently confident to go home and get started on your own machine and/or join our dressmaking workshop – AND you will have a lovely tote bag and, time depending, zippy bag to inspire you.

Use of our materials, haberdashery and machines is included. If you want to bring your own sewing machine please bring your instruction book.

One-to-one sessions make great presents – especially if you are also gifting a sewing machine.

Learn a new technique, get some guidance with developing an idea or create a tailor made session for some time out.

Learn simple stitches and how to use them to make something unique to you. This relaxing session is for beginners or those who want to free up their technique.

We will explore a selection of stitches including: running stitch, stem stitch, French and bullion knots and seeding stitch. If there is a particular line or fill that you need we will look at the different stitches. 
You can use these to create an image which can then be left in a frame or made into a small lavender shape.

There will be an opportunity to look at different fabrics and fibres you can use, with an emphasis on re-using and adapting scraps and other bits and bobs. 

You can work on your own design, an idea you have been mulling over or you can work from one of our images. You will learn how to plan and transfer your design onto your base fabric.

This workshop is part of Sam’s Harrow Open Studio. Her artwork will be around for you to use as inspiration and ideas. It will take place in the Stitch Club Studio in Central Pinner. This Aladdin’s cave is full of inspirational textile bits and bobs. It has been adapted to our new way of being with a lovely outdoor working space where you can relax and forget about the world outside.

You will leave with new ideas and the confidence to create your next embroidery independently.
